We all are convinced that if the vicious cycle of illiteracy and ignorance has to be broken, doorstep school at the pre-school level was needed to be set up. The first six years in a child’s life are very crucial. It is in these years that the physical, language and the social development of the child is at the peak. Investment in Early Childhood Care and Education is therefore very essential. The English medium Nursery Schools programme was the first institutional project initiated by MESCO in one of the slum pocket in Bandra in the year 1977. This door step school enabled children from the school to qualify at the admission tests of high schools around the area and therefore access good mainstream education. The Nursery Schools project was taken up under the aegis of MESCO Education Society in 2009 and ever since has been managed by it.
